Clickbait is considered to be false advertising and bad.\u00a0 But, what if we were to use it with care?\u00a0 What if we used it properly, like a true English gentleman would.<\/p>\n

The purpose of clickbait is to attract attention and make people click.\u00a0 There is nothing wrong with describing content in an interesting way, in order to generate curiosity.<\/p>\n

Clickbait has been around us for a long time, long before BuzzFeed became an expert in the matter.\u00a0 From newspapers of centuries past, to television series that end with a cliffhanger so you\u2019ll tune in for the next chapter.\u00a0 And of course we can\u2019t forget the classic ads which announced, \u201care you tired of losing money?\u00a0 Well, suffer no more!\u00a0 Because with the new\u2026..\u201d<\/p>\n

Focusing on the Internet, titles for clickbait have a very bad reputation because they usually \u201ctrick\u201d the users, promising content that is never like what they say.\u00a0\u00a0 The key to good clickbait is to have the user enter and, importantly, find the content which they were expecting.<\/strong>\u00a0 That is to say, \u00a0introduce the content in an expressive manner, but without deceiving people.<\/p>\n

If you write, \u201cYou cannot imagine the incredible secret that I\u2019ve never shared with anyone\u201d , and then it turns out that once you peed in a swimming pool,\u2026 this is bad.\u00a0 Our emotions motivate us and to manipulate them with exaggerations doesn\u2019t lead us anywhere.\u00a0 You will get visits but, if the user flees from your content, then this has not accomplished anything.\u00a0 Because they are not going to want to share your content.<\/p>\n

This is also true with YouTube and images which are previewed.\u00a0 You have almost certainly had the experience of looking for a fragment of a TV show, you go in to see the image and, in the end, they only talk about the show.\u00a0 They have managed to get visits, but the short duration and the possibility of dislikes will end up hurting them.<\/p>\n

What words to use in the title<\/h2>\n

The title is the first point of contact with your potential audience and it can be the only one if it doesn\u2019t attract their attention.\u00a0 Therefore, you have to take great care and dedicate sufficient time in order to have a good title.<\/p>\n

First, think about what your audience wants and what their feelings or interests are.\u00a0 Once this is clear, then let your creativity run free and think of 20 possible titles that can bring together those interests with the theme of your content.\u00a0 Once these are done, have someone you trust help you look at it from a different perspective and choose the best one.<\/p>\n

The title has to add value and introduce what the article is about.\u00a0 Don\u2019t be ambiguous, like \u201cWhat this man did will amaze you\u201d, or \u201cI have bad news\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 And don\u2019t use gratuitous capital letters!<\/p>\n

Another thing which is very important to keep in mind is that the title facilitates being found on Google and other search engines.\u00a0 That is to say, if you have made a compilation of GIFs of animals, it is better to call it \u201cLook at these GIFs of animals\u201d, rather than \u201cLook at this list of GIFs\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 Thus, your compilation \u00a0will show up when the users are searching for \u201cGIFs of animals\u201d.<\/p>\n

You have probably already realized this, but people love lists.\u00a0 They help organize information and it extends their potential lifespan.\u00a0 Another way to attract attention is to personalize the title, such as \u201cI did it\u2026\u201d, or talk to the user directly, such as \u201cWhen you read this..\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 Questions are also a good resource to attract attention:\u00a0 \u201cDid you know\u2026\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 And if you manage to insert (with relevance) current events, references to pop culture or animals, you can find yourself with a deluge of clicks.<\/p>\n

As an example of the points above, it is not the same to use the title \u201c Overview of the history of the Mayas\u201d, rather than \u201cDo you know the 7 most important moments in Mayan civilization?\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 So, now you know.\u00a0\u00a0 You can bring your content to life thanks to clickbaits with class.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
