    And why is all this possible now? This data portability is here <\/span>to comply <\/b>with the “General Data Protection Regulation” (<\/span>GDPR)<\/b> of the European Union, which goes into effect on May 25, 2018. Among its <\/span>privacy laws,<\/b> it establishes that all users must be able to download their data.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Therefore, we can expect other platforms to do the same in the coming days. <\/span>WhatsApp<\/b> has already announced that you will be able to export your account information (but not messages) in <\/span>their next update<\/b>. <\/span>Moreover, on Facebook it\u2019s already possible for some users to do this!<\/span><\/p>\n

    How to download your Facebook data, step by step<\/b><\/h2>\n

    1 \u2013 <\/span>Go into<\/b> your account.<\/span><\/p>\n

    2 – Click on the <\/span>triangle<\/b> on the top right. A <\/span>menu<\/b> will be displayed.<\/span><\/p>\n

    3 \u2013 Go to <\/span>“Settings”.<\/b><\/p>\n

    4 – In “<\/span>General account settings”,<\/b> you should be able see, just below “Manage account”, that you can export your data. If it does not show up, try again in a week.<\/span><\/p>\n

    5 – Click on “<\/span>Download a copy”<\/b> and then click “<\/span>Start My File”.<\/b><\/p>\n
